If you play basketball, you’re probably so focused on running faster, jumping higher, and shooting better. Little did you know, you also need to focus on your smile. This is because this sport can damage your teeth and gums in more ways than you might realize. To help you care for your smile while you play basketball, our dentist, Dr. Robert Seaman, has some tips for you.
First, wear a mouthguard. There is a high chance that you’ll suffer a blow to the face while you’re playing, especially because there is a lot of body contact involved in the sport. When you experience this blow, your teeth could get knocked out, chipped, or cracked. You could also harm your oral tissues. If you wear a mouthguard, the chances of these things happening reduce.
Second, avoid sports drinks. Sports drinks are packed with sugar. Sugar promotes cavities. So, if possible, don’t drink the sports drinks. Stick to drinking water.
